I've never tried growing AMYTHYST (sp?) FLAME, which I think of as the
beginning of orchid colored Schreiner irises. MADIERA has done
reasonably well here, and SULTRY MOOD has been a good solid workhorse
bloomer for me every single year, including this one. I've not tried
SWINGTOWN or DIABOLIQUE (but it will grow in this area - I've seen it in
a garden in Knoxville). TITAN'S GLORY is a super grower here, tho it
often has blooms knocked out by freezes. DUSKY CHALLENGER is as
reliable as SULTRY MOOD. The other Schreiner blacks that I've grown
(HELLO DARKNESS, <...empty brain cells..>) tend to be a bit miffy -
don't grow well, get buds killed etc. ROCOCO is a true weed here - it's
one that Christy Hensler dug and shipped to me in March one year that
went on to bloom normally in early May (normal flower, normal stalk
height). It got here after the late killer freeze for that year, but
has experienced a few 'good' killers since with no problem.

So, bottom line, I guess it's worth a shot. Too bad there aren't any
WHOLE CLOTH genes lurking in there somewhere. Thanks Neil.
