CULT:Late bloom on an onco

One of the Oncocyclus hybrids I got from Van Bourgondien's last fall
is blooming!

I grew these in large pots and while I didn't really expect any
bloom, the new growth has been robust and augurs well for next year.

This strange late bloom is almost stemless, but the fan parted enough
to allow it to open. It appeared to have no bracts and showed color
right from the start.

The variety is 'Ravid', with a typical coloration of bluish standards
and brown to tan falls.

"My Aunt Maria asked me to read the life of Dr. Chalmers, which,
however, I did not promise to do. Yesterday, Sunday, she was heard
through the partition shouting to my Aunt Jane, who is deaf, 'Think
of it! He stood half an hour today to hear the frogs croak, and he
wouldn't read the life of Chalmers,'"

Thomas Chalmers, a Scottish theologian, published in four volumes,
1849-1852.)
