Airbrushing isn't necessary if the photographers are careful with timing and 
angle for the pictures.  I've rarely bloomed an ugly seedling that couldn't 
have been made at least moderately interesting if you photograph it just as 
it's opened up.  I now, occasionally, recognize the technique in catalogs.  

If you see a picture with very tight standards and "outstanding" (or standing 
out) falls, look a little closer and wonder why it's been photographed when 
barely open rather than after it has relaxed and is showing its mature 
beauty.  Could be it doesn't look so great once it's relaxed.  

I know, I've had a few dreams trashed 4 hours or so after I've dreamed them.
