Bill,
Your description certainly fits what my I. lazica looks like (although I
have never looked for branching bloom stalks).
The whole look of the plant is so much more robust and statuesque than I.
unguicularis, with the flowers heavier, smaller with more pronounced (to me
at least) standards and falls than I. unguicularis.
I grow mine in an area which gets sun for a lot of the afternoon, with a
dripper for when the watering system is on, but otherwise neglected
totally. It has outgrown any of my unguicularis, as well as surviving
neglect in a pot for a few yeasrs in the open sun where it had been
forgotten about. I discovered it with a tiny little green shoot about
three years ago, otherwise totally shrivelled. It is now a clump two feet
across at the base. I love it!
Cheers.
