This highlights one aspect of this thread few of us have touched on.
I think it is of great benefit to all of us if reselect seedlings of
considerable merit, but not quite intro quality, occasionally get
passed around, carefully, for breeding. Many commercial hybridizers
are VERY reluctant to let something out of the breeding patch, for
good reason. They end up passed on and on.....might as well have
been named and introduced.
But, there are those that are benchmark breeders. Some new
characteristic, some special combination of factors can make a
breeder seedling more than just a little worth while. It may be the
five-foot two-inch-based seedling is one such. It also may be that
it is not. One must trust the breeder's judgment.
