Re: HYB:Seedlings

Betty, I probably have more pods this year than I will have room or strength to plant next spring. Would it be possible to leave some of them in the refrigerator for another year? It is always possible that an early hot spell will make me come up empty as it did last year when I only got one pod out of about 30 crosses.

  Hi Talkers,

With way too many pods ballooning in the garden, I've had little time to
think about last years meager crop. Germination was down seriously this year.
I'm sure it's my fault . . . I failed to follow through with watering once
bloom season began. It rained and then, when I dug into the pots, I found
another round of small seedlings just cracking the seed. I'll find a
different place for my seedling pots next year. Something a bit more
convenient to both water and the sun.

With the hot spring we've had, I was beginning to wonder what I was going to
do with my seedlings. This cool spell, with internitten rain storms, has
been just what the iris doctor ordered! Four long afternoons at my friends
house and most of my seedlings are planted. I saved a few of each, and one
rebloom seedling cross that is dear to my heart, for a small bed here at
home. A few others were too weak to survive the primitive ground planting,
and they went back into the pots for yet another day, or year. Maybe by fall.

Anyway, it's been a GOOD week. Sigh! Ouch! Ohhhhhh! <g> This old body is
getting to old for this stuff.
