Re: Re: HYB: condiment cups & toothpicks

Coming from a laboratory background, I've always used flip-capped
Microcentrifuge Tubes. They are avalable in a range of sizes, but the 2ml is
prob the best if storing whole anthers, 0.5 ml if you store just the
pollen., little racks (ea holding about 36 tubes) are also avail. They are
usually supplied in packs of 1,000. Leave the lid up for a few days till
your pollen is dry and then clip down for an air tight seal. The lids won't
pop if you drop them. I label mine with a piece of sticky paper, and have a
rack for each colour, ie blue, purple, white/yellow etc. I keep my whole
series of racks in a large sealable tub in the fridge with milk powder as a
desicant. Keep it from one year to the next. Yes, my husband does complain
that it leaves less room for the beer, esp when I've also got my seeds in
there, stratifying , as well.

Most laboratory suppliers keep a cheap range of these tubes. The orginal
maker, and possibly the dearest is Eppendorf. However if you want to have a
look go the www.eppendorf.com . Then check your yellow pages for a
loboratory supplier near you. Many will probably post also.
