Hi Tanya,
The correct answer about mulching depends on what climate you have. The
general part of the country that you live in and USDA Zone would be helpful.
In general, anyplace where summers are hot and moist should not mulch bearded
irises because it can promote rot. In a very dry climate a little mulch
could help keep the roots from baking. But always keep the mulch away from
the crown of the plant.
