Bill,
If you are looking for late-blooming genes to incorporate into your
breeding lines, I would recommend Melba Hamblen's irises. Virtually every
TB she introduced blooms after mid-season. Her EXTRAVAGANT, ENCHANTING,
PINK SAPPHIRE, and SONG OF SPRING have consistently been among the last ten
TBs to open here each year. But watch out! - many folks locally think this
late blooming tendency is the main reason that none of Melba's
introductions ever won a Dyke's Medal.
