I waited a couple of days hoping someone more knowledgable would answer
your question.  The people in the know call this PBF (purple based
foliage).  The information I've received through iris-talk is that it
occurs on some plants in some areas when it may not in another area.

I've been using this site to verify the identification of some of my
historics and once my iris season is over (does that ever happen ( :-) I'll
add the ones that have shown PBF on them for me.  By the way, newer iris
have it also.
