Here is a good place to start for buying a camera.

The better the camera the more likely it has a good glass lens for sharper
pictures. At least a 2 mega pixel better a 3. Higher than three is for
people who want to print out pictures bigger than 8" x 10".
 You can buy a card reader for under $30 which acts like another drive in
the computer. Make it easy to download pictures. Don't forget computer
stores like CompUSA.
