CULT -- oh deer oh deer

Hi Rosalie,

We don't have deer, but the former president of
Sydney B. Mitchell Iris Society, Chuck Dekker,
lives up in the hills and has lots of deer -- he
reports that they in fact do eat iris.  He recently
noticed that they seem to prefer some cultivars,
possibly based on scent -- i.e. they'd eat all the
blooms of one cultivar and ignore ones next to it.

He has PVC pipe/mesh constructions around many of
his iris beds to discourage deer.
