HYB: breeding for BC

Hi Everyone, 

I just posted a pic of Kilimanjaro Sunrise. I did some
crosses with it and now I have a question regarding
breeding for broken color irises. I have done several
broken color crosses to plicatas and have not gotten
any seedlings showing this trait. All my crosses were
using the broken color as the pollen parent. Would I
get better results if it were the other way around?
