CULT: Overwintering in Pots in Zones 3/4

Hi Arnold

Thanks for the information. When did you pot these rhizomes up and why did you
start doing this ?

I had about 12 leftover TB and median rhizomes that I had potted up in July last
year in 4 inch pots and most of them (10 or 11) made it through winter being outside
above ground and with no extra mulch (we did, however, have lots of snow last winter).

I am expanding my experiment this year and have repotted some of these into large
pots (12 to 14 inch depths) and am planning on seeing how these irises do permanently
in pots. They will be overwintered outside, but all I plan on doing for winter
protection is tipping the pots on their side.

garden, and I mulched them with loose mulch (I always use my dried corn
stalks) that doesn't pack down but keeps winter sun off the rhizomes. I have
not lost a single iris this way.
