OOps. Ms. Mann omitted the Siberian iris list called the
'Sibrob'. It is also archived by hort.net and has been for
several years.

A word about AIS approved electonic robins. I began the Sibrob
list more than 9 years ago at the suggestion of Libby Cross, AIS
Round Robin Chair. It was started as the first AIS electronic
round robin. If one joins Sibrob (yes, on Yahoo groups), I have
the welcome message that informs new members of that fact.

1) I do not ask anyone if they belong to AIS before approving
their membership.

2) I don't even know if the Sibrob is still considered a part of
the AIS round robin and it is not of concern to me either way.

3) The Sibrob has gone thru various transformations: it started
as my own private list with 6 members and then progressed to a
real mailing list when it got too cumbersome. First with Onelist
then with eGroups and then to Yahoogroups thru internet buying
and selling.

4) I have no real complaints with Yahoogroups. I used to have
more complaints with hort.net than Yahoogroups. I have made it
my business to know how to deal with this entity called
Yahoogroups.

5) As far as cookies go, almost all websites you viits will take
your info unless you make sure they cannot or at least make it
more difficult. The problem is you may make it impossible for
yourself to receive mail from mailing lists like Yahoogroups and
hort.net,etc. if they cannot id the address.

6)If anyone has ordered anything from eBay (for instance) or
even browsed their site(s), you need aggressive defenses for
protection. In this era one should have spy-ware and anti-viral
programs on the computer and make sure your ISP has a very good
spam buster.
