Thanks Anner, Neil and all the others who have had input to this issue. As one of the AIS 2005 Convention committee, Host Garden and all-around busy person, we all in St. Louis want to tell attendees that the weather is great, host gardens vary from Zone 5 to 6B and will have great bloom and we welcome ALL who come! Our own garden is Zone 5 and we will have a glorious MTB display and lots of TBs. Missouri Botanical Garden should be peak bloom (are you listening Mother Nature???) After 6.5 inches of rain last week in our garden, we are hoping to get the back-forty mowed!!! St. Louis Blues is our hockey team, not the current upbeat attitude of the Convention Committee!! We welcome everyone to St. Louis

This post reminds me that there are likely people new to this forum, or new
to these issues, who may have formed the impression that the St. Louis "fuss"
erupted out of nowhere, and so are unable to understand the intensity that has
surrounded it. This is not the case. There is more to the story than a
conflict of programs.
This situation has been ongoing since about 1997. Although there are some who
appear to be energized by the discord, to relish it even, the situation and
the rhetoric surrounding it have been a source of a good deal of discomfort,
even pain, for many for years, especially those wanting to support sincerely and
in good conscience both organizations. The highest levels of leadership of
both societies have been involved over several administrations, and the AIS
Bylaws were changed in an effort to effect resolution. Call me a wetblanket, but
I
don't see much humor in it.
It is always well, I think, for a thoughtful person to form an independent
opinion after examining the record. Persons wishing to review some of the
history of this conflict with an eye toward better understanding it may wish to
spend some time with the archives of this mailing list. Last evening I found the
conversations in the first week of December, 1998, and the second to third
weeks of August, 2000 repaid my attention; others might consider different
exchanges more interesting. It is important to bear in mind that the archives
don't
document the entire story, and some people's opinions may have changed in
intervening years.
The archives are located at: <<http://www.hort.net/lists//iris-talk/>>.
