SDB: mutations?

<Can anyone tell me what influences 4 petal blooms?  Last year in my 
small bed, Just A Flirt had one 4 petal.  This year in the same bed, Just 
A Flirt, Little Episode and Hot Fudge all have a 4 petal blossom.>

Birdie - I'd be interested in the answer - although I suppose it happens in every living thing occasionally.  Last year I had a FOREVER BLUE blossom with four falls, and recently the first blossom to open on the SDB CACHET had five!
 
They still looked pretty, and - almost - perfect ;-)
