Re: SEED: Blue beard [R&I on Jaguar Blue]

Bill, the R&I data is:
JAGUAR BLUE (George Sutton, R. 2001). Sdlg G-57. TB, 36" (91 cm), ML.
Heavily ruffled ethyl blue (lighter than RHS 112D); beards ethyl blue, hairs
tipped pale yellow; edges serrate; slight sweet fragrance. Silver Flow X
Silverado. Sutton 2001.

In the location where I have it the plant is not an aggressive grower. I
like the flower. The effect is white, the bluish tone to the beard quite
subdued.

From the pedigree, I would expect the variety to have superior breeding
potential, especially with things with along the line of Schreiner and
Schreiner-line blues descended from seedling L 100A, such as HONKY TONK
BLUES, YAQUINA BLUE, SKYWALKER and SEA POWER.

I'm tempted also to try it with some of the Swingtown X Romantic Evening
descendants, especially those involving FOGBOUND. A number of the non-white
types have very rich blue beards, but those beard colors may vanish in
crosses out to dominant whites.

In more remote times, Melvina Suiter's blue-bearded whites that involved SUN
LAKES ancestry were strong in their blue beard on white development,
including LADY BLUE BEARD and SWEET ALICE LEE.

SONG OF NORWAY and some others closely related have some of that SUN LAKES
heritage in their remote ancestry. The blue beards do show in these.

UNCLE CHARLIE and the reverse sibling, LADY OF LEONESS, both from Don Spoon
through their Winterberry Gardens, are both from HONKY TONK BLUES and
SILVERADO. From this ancestry (which includes L 100-A) and the quality
showing in their photographs, I would expect superior progeny from these as
well along the line which you are thinking.
