It is inadvisable to cut back healthy foliage on any irises during the
growing season, since the leaves are the food factory for the plant. It is
especially important to keep reblooming irises in a state of active growth
if you expect to obtain repeated bloom from them. This may involve extra
fertilization and supplemental watering compared to the way once-blooming
irises are treated, depending on your growing conditions.
