Also, unless irises have pollen that is a <lot> bigger than pollen of
most plants, each pollen grain is too small to be visible to the naked
eye.  So what looks (& feels) like a single "grain" of pollen is
actually more than one?
....

                   produced in the pod, at least one  acceptable, viable
pollen grain must be placed on
                   the stigma. >
