CULT:
Good morning iris lovers: 2 things. The picture of AMAS looked like a deep
blue but the catalog I am looking at says it is a violet bi-tone. Is it blue
or violet?
Earlier I posted about burning my front bed in January including several iris
plants. I reported that some were showing signs of blooming. Now that they
iris season is grinding down for me and even the late bloomers are open, it
seems that only the late bloomers put on buds. TRUDY was in the burned area and
although it bloomed on time and normally, it bloomed sparsely. It leads me
to suspect that the buds are formed in the plants at least 14-15 weeks before
they actually bloom. This is assuming that the bloom buds in the other iris
were destroyed by the fire as opposed to simply not blooming this year for
whatever reason. The bulk of the iris in that 60' bed bordered the west edge and
were (perhaps) not affected by the fire and not a single one of them bloomed.
