Ms. Richter, you are the Secretary of HIPS, and I am a longtime member with
a documented record of supporting the organization; I have a question for
you.
I need to know exactly when the next issue of ROOTS is slated to be mailed
out to the membership. It seems to me that since you are soliciting time
sensitive input--and plants--you should have this information readily at hand.
I need to know because at the end of this month I am giving an Iris
presentation at the annual Open House at the Thomas Jefferson Center for Historic
Plants in Charlottesville, Virginia. I am honored to have been asked to be part
of this event, and in better times, I'd be preparing to beat the drum very
loudly, for HIPS, as I have at other events sponsored by the Center, which is,
incidentally, a HIPS Display Garden.
Unfortunately, with no ROOTS in a year, and no clue as to what is going on
or what is being done to alleviate the situation, I find myself in a quandary.
And yes, I did receive that form letter in which you announced the slate and
asked the membership to donate rhizomes.
My quandary, you see, is that in these circumstances I don't think it would
be appropriate to make positive representations to potential new members. I
can, of course, simply expunge the name of HIPS from the passout sheets I am
drafting then hope for the best, but I thought before doing that I would ask
if you might have some useful information for me, and for any other supportive
HIPS members in an ethical quandary with regard to recruitment this season.
Thank you.
