folks have in past recommended --or mentioned as hearsay-- the use of lemon juice
and sugar in unknown proportions, or, for convenience, the soft drink
Sprite. Citric acid and sugar seem to be the magical things.
As for the molasses thing, that is the first I've heard of it. I would not
mess with it, myself.
I'm just trying to be helpful here since you are racing around. I've no
experience of the preservative issue, myself.
