HYB: Beards--sendhappy puter

Well, all of my irises are suddenly missing a standard.

I was looking at one of my seedlings last night... can't remember why...
and happened to notice a few scraggly hairs down in the midrib of the
standards. Naturally, this is big news since at least one line of flats
is derived from parents noted as having 6 beards. But, just to be
sure that the "general" population of irises is bald, I went around my
garden and checked one standard on every cultivar that is blooming...
including seedlings. Most cultivars I checked were shockingly naked.

In case anyone else is interested, here's where I found hair. . o O (that
just doesn't sound right <vbg>)

Seedlings: 05-148-01 (Cycles X Fashionably Late), 05-070-02 (Indigo
Princess X Chartreuse Ruffles), 05-038-09 (Chartreuse Ruffles X Indigo
Princess). Pictures of all three have been posted this week. Bill
Tyson's 97-034-07.

Named Cultivars: Obrein's Choice, Cycles, Spectacular Bid, Beau Zam, and
Returning Chameleon.

With the exception of Spectacular Bid and Returning Chameleon, all are
already part of my flat breeding program based on pedigrees. Many
cultivars not blooming here, I think overall I've got about 40% bloom.
