Can be several different factors. Soil ph can affect color, nutrition although less likely, can fade iris, temperature (usually hot) can fade iris and chemical herbicides can wash out color and distort blooms. Round-up is usually the culprit with herbicides however other herbicides can wash out color as well. hope that helps.

Do anyone know anything about loss of color in German Bearded Iris. For years I have had masses of very vigorous dark purple iris along with other colors but the purple were the most vigorous. This year the clumps are huge and covered with lots of flower stalks but as the flowers unfurl I see that they are all a pale grey blue color instead ofthe stunning dark purple they were.I have searched online but I have not been able to find anything about lossof color. Any ideas? Thanks, ED GRENTZ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the message text UNSUBSCRIBE IRIS
