Indigo Princess X Six Pack. Falling For You seems to have the highest percentage of "Flats" from anything either George or I have worked with. Six Pack would be number 2 at about 10%. All the others Unfurled Flag, Flat Rate, Judy Mogul, etc. have very low to no flat seedling production...... for us anyway. Don't know if that helps, just observations from our gardens.

I looked up 'Falling For You' and it looks quite similar to 'Six Pack'. You doknow if there is any common ancestry involved? I think 25% seems like quite agood rate for a mutation? If I could get a rate that high, I would be quitepleased. I breed fowl and that is about the same rate as for some of their traits. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v70/Indiana_Gardener/2007%20birds/hakuraiko u-5-1-2009.jpg The somewhat fickle nature of the flat trait not alwaysholding true is something I've read about, but have yet to witness with the ones I have here. Does that seem more or less frequent some yrs than other? Thanks! Flats can have a tendency to notalways be flat too....can't quitefigure that one out as 7flowers on the same stalk will be flat with sixfalls andbeards and then two will not be flat but usually have six fallswith no beards. they are a bit frustrating andcould use some reallyfocused work.Mike Sutton ----- Original Message ----- From:"greenthumbs" <greenthumbs777@yahoo.com>To: <Iris@hort.net> Sent:Tuesday, May 26, 2009 3:34 PMSubject: [iris] breeding 6 fall bearded Irises > Hi all, > > I just joined the list. I have been attemptingto breed flat beardeds. I have only beensuccessful in getting threeseedlings so far and have yet tosee what blooms they produce. I wouldideally like toproduce numbers more into the 100s or 1,000s for betterselections. I have more blooms this yr than last and theweather has beencooler and more humid.
