Thanks for the info on clopyralid (Alligare). One teaspoon/gallon, very lightly sprayed over the tops of irises with purple vetch really did the trick.
It's been very satisfying watching the vetch slowly but surely die! ;-) Must say, it is so slow acting, it makes Roundup look like it kills immediately ;-) Established clover is slower to go down, but is not looking very happy.
And I suspect chickweed doesn't like it very much, even tho it's not listed as a target weed. Seems to have killed some of it.
It supposedly kills things in the composite family, but so far, has had no effect on prickly lettuce and a few others.
But now the dominant weed is a little geranium that is delightfully easy to pull, is very open and airy, so not much threat to the irises.
