It is a sad day indeed. He will be greatly missed. George freely shared his ideas and his love for irises. His presentations and judges training were always informative and entertaining. He was a bit of a maverick as a hybridizer. He championed breaking new ground by working on improving space-agers (those ugly deformed things) and by breeding IBs (which everyone said were infertile). And he was an auctioneer extraordinaire at the Geek dinner. Conventions won't be the same without him.
