Holly - I'm currently using vinyl siding scraps cut into strips, Painters and/or China marking pencil (which I gave up trying to find locally - everywhere I went they said things like 'oh yeah, I know what you are talking about, I haven't seen that for years' and ordered several from Amazon.)
I mark the seedlings with a 6 to 8" 'stake' of siding, about half an inch to an inch or so wide, then bury a smaller piece of vinyl blind and another like it stuck in the ground partway. I've found that three labels plus a map and a small pile of rocks between seedling crosses is <usually> enough to keep track of seedlings, but even that isn't always enough.
