I bought quite a lot of new (new here) things last fall, always grow the new ones in pots so I can bring them indoors for any abrupt late winter/early spring damaging freezes.

Terminal fans on a few survived, but all but two were too damaged to put up a stalk. Minus 4oF during the winter is too much to ask of an iris in a pot, I think, & I didn't have energy to keep them covered with double Reemay during the coldest weather this year.

The two that did bloom on terminal fans are:

Autumn Sunrise (Ginny Spoon, R. 2007) Sdlg. 99-44A. TB, 34" (86 cm), EM & RE S. and style arms light orient-pink (RHS 29A); F. same veined darker carmine (33D) on hafts and shoulders, lighter edges and zone around tangerine (40A) beards; ruffled, flared; slight sweet fragrance. Diamond Blush X Chatter. Winterberry 2007. HM 2011. Small flowers & lack width, but pretty.

Winterland (Monty Byers, R. 1989) Sdlg. D158-135. TB, 35" (89 cm), EM-M & RE Heavily ruffled white, slight green tint on S., light violet beard tipped yellow; slight sweet fragrance. Immortality X B-8-2: (Cease-Fire x Sky Hooks). Moonshine 1990. HM 1994.

A couple of my seedlings and one plant that's lost its label also managed to bloom from their terminal fans.

However, the big pleasant surprise was that two new irises put up not one, but <two> nice healthy bloomstalks each on increases.

Queen's Robe (Frederick Kerr, R. 2010) Sdlg. 03-108A. TB, 38" (97 cm), M S. light pink, darker at center; style arms pink; F. light pink, darker hafts, medium blue edge; beards orange red; slight sweet fragrance. Sib to Guardian Light. Rainbow Acres, Stanton 2010.

Really pretty but a bit too narrow for me to want to mix it with my rebloom lines. But I love the bloom habit!

Darn Tootin' (Tom Burseen, R. 2010) Sdlg. 07-271A. TB, 36" (91 cm), M S. creamy carrot-red (RHS 29C); style arms darker creamy carrot-red; F. red purple (60B), darker maroon veins, peach edges; beards vermillion (41A); very ruffled; pronounced sweet fragrance. Photogenic X 05-226: (Sensationalizer x Sofia). Burseen 2011.

This last one is gorgeous. Big, wide, ruffled - love it. Hoping the anthers will open up ... at least it <has> anthers. Depending on how it holds up to summer humidity, erratic rainfall, this may be one of the only 'new' things I've gotten in years that will have the honor of moving from its pot out to the rows where my seedlings are tortured. Worse late freeze damage out in the open most years, but more room to grow.
