OK. Hope this works for you' In other words, it could be a way to identify which seedlings we might want to use for rebloom crosses <before> we've grown them enough years to hit the right combination of climate and care to find out if they <can> rebloom. Something to factor in . . .your primary contributor is Immortality. It was chosen for it"s health. Plant health. It was the healthiest clump in the yard? It has a very high fan to stalk ratio. (not many stalks) This could be important. There are other attributes to consider. In other words, it could be a way to identify which seedlings we might want to use for rebloom crosses <before> we've grown them enough years to hit the right combination of climate and care to find out if they <can> rebloom. So, for example, in a cross this year, IMM X (IMM x Csong), there are 6 seedlings that bloomed. None of the bloomstalks have pods on them and only 2 managed to bloom (maiden) this spring. Once the last bloom on the one that's currently blooming fades, I can cut those two blooming ends off the rhizome, count leaves (leaf scars) on them and compare. If one has 5 leaf scars, the other has 10, the one with 5 is more likely to be a rebloomer. I think that's what Chuck has said. I have a hunch that you've been doing this long enough that you can probably look at a group of seedlings from a particular cross and already are aware of this at an intuitive level. I think I saw some big differences amongst seedlings in leaf count this year - seemed pretty obvious in some of them, even without counting. But too young to know if they can rebloom. none fertile this year. On 5/29/2014 1:31 PM, Betty Wilkerson wrote: > I'm not Chuck, but I can see where this would work for you.
