Iris In Bloom

Hi

It is rather interesting to me that I. cristata is in bloom several locations
throughout the US. My first Ic started blooming Friday. Two varieties did not
survive this past winter. I suspect the rain washed too much protection away
.

So far the sdb which has most impressed me is "Village Flirt" , Blyth '94.
The terminal bud was crisp and lovely for 5 full days, standards are just
collapsing in time for the next bud ( 2days later) . It is a soft peachy-pink
in my garden lavender beards.
3 buds. This is its first year here.

I have found some nice old iris in cemetaries, I'm sure many of you have
had the same experience. The tough, neglected iris is something we would
like to have in our own collection especially after paying lots of money for
"this years introduction" which bit the dust . The Town of Steilacom, Wa. is
a nice place to walk. It also has nice old flowers. I know there are lots of
iris there which I just don't recognize.

I. florentina and Elenor Roosevelt are now in bloom. "Thunder Eagle", " Fat
and Sassy ", Chalk Mark", "Micheal Paul","Magenta Magic",and "Ritz" are
really happy iris. I hope "Clear Creek" B Jones "95 proves to be a long term
iris. It has such clean clear tones of blue and in my garden has a touch of
turquiose in the falls. "Country DeeJay" Lankow '79 is the first IB to
really make a good show. "Snow Over Chicago"
Danielson has a great clump for an AB. Yeah for the iris in bloom. What's
going to be open tomorrow.?

We have had sun, rain, wind, frost and hail the past 24 hours. It sounds like
spring! The Cascade Mtns got 12" snow night before last, after the winter
snow removal crews had been released of course. That is less than 50 miles
from this location.

Let's enjoy spring! Rita B. near the Puget Sound and fighting off the
slugs
