Re: Welcome maggie/JI Symposium

I'm a relatively new iris grower, living in Washington, DC. I have
several historic iris and newer cultivars.

I wonder if anyone can help me solve a mystery that is demolishing my
flowering stalks. I think they're being eaten, but don't know by what.
The damage consists of cuts across the main stalk, sometimes two about
1-1.5 inches apart and sometimes one. They're almost like knife cuts. I
come out into the yard in the morning and find a stalk or two fallen over,
neatly severed up to about 98% and hanging on just by a thread. Most of
these cuts are flat, though one is at an angle. Most of the affected
plants are the newer cultivars. Some of the historic iris stalks have
also been "cut" but have survived it somehow to continue growing and to
flower.

Does this problem sound familiar? If so, what would you recommend that I
should I do?

Thanks for sharing your experience.
