BATIK bloomed out late yesterday. It was on a stalk that was only
about eight inches tall. The bloom appeared normal at first, then I
noticed something was missing--The Beards. This plant was planted in late
October on the south side of the house. A neighbor gave it to me when the
Michigan Bulb Company sent her two rhizomes.
I had BATIK before, but my original planting rotted during last
spring's (?) miserable weather. Other than the missing beards, this BATIK
looks like the real thing. I think that the short stalk and the missing
beards could be the result of the extremely late planting date combined
with the dreaded Kentucky Freeze Test. (Ideas?)
