Howdy,
I've been watching the List for about 2 weeks and can't stand to be silent
any longer. I have about 300 varieties of iris including several different
beardless species as well as MDBs to TBs in the bearded kind. My favorites
are the medians which are the focus of my novice attempts at hybridizing for
the last 4 years. I am an apprentice judge hoping to get "accredited" this
year. This has been a cool spring with one late freeze that has produced a
number (22) of deformed SDBs, which are in full bloom now, normal ones, too.
I have a number of SDBs in 2 year clumps which offer a good comparison of
bloom and vigor. The Winners are: FORTE, PIRATES PATCH, STAR BABY and
WIDOW'S VEIL with 10 to 15 bloom stalks each. On the downside: PATACAKE,
RIPPLE CHIP, FIRST ROMANCE, OLIVE & BLUE, and STARQUEST had less than 5 bloom
stalks in their 2 year clumps. A MDB, SQUIGGLES, had about 30 bloom stalks
on a 2 year clump! It will be interesting to see if it has anything left.
Cheers,
