This very same descussion came up this weekend at the Region 4 Regional
Garden Tour. It is the general belief that they are more resistant to
virus and other problems. Certainly the clumps of irises with purple
based foliage looked perfect in gardens I saw, compared to non-purple
based foliage. More 'scientific' research needs to be done on this
subject.
