Diana,
Here, it looks as though the Irises with Purple Based Foliage as a
group are hardier and are less prone to disease, insects, and rot than
those Irises without Purple Based Foliage. This is not to say that all
Irises without PBF are weak. I have some good Irises that have green or
white based foliage too, but as a group, I think the PBF Irises are more
durable.
