CULT: 'spring' fertilizer?

Did anybody make more suggestions about when to fertilize tall bearded irises
in the spring?  Last I heard was the (?humorous?) advice to fertilize after
the last frost, about a month before bloom.  Bloom season is about over here,
and I HOPE I had my last frost this morning.  What do you folks suggest?
 Fertilize now?  Wait till after it really and truly warms up - like maybe
when the tender annuals start really growing?  Should I have maybe fertilized
twice - once before bloom and once after?  What to do....
