WHat exactly is a sunset zone? WHat does it mean? Is it important?

The USDA divides the country into 11 hardiness zones each zone has an
average lowest temperatures 10 degrees higher then the next lowest zone.
Sunset publishing company divides the USA and southern Canada into 45
different zones which take into account not only lowest temperature but
highest temperature, humidity, and rainfall. The Sunset gardening book
contains zone maps and a list and disscription of 6,000+ plants and which
zones are compatible with which Sunset zones.
The book cost about $25 at Walk-Mart and Booksellers.
