Spurias respond well to a top-dressing of a couple of inches of compost,
applied before they begin to grow again in the fall. Or if yours are
dormant all winter, put it on in spring. Well-rotted manure or leaf mould
would also do the job. Sprinkle a handful of rock phosphate over
established clumps after putting down the compost.
