Boric acid in some sweet syrup like jam keeps ants out of my house. I had
an attack of carpenter ants which were eradicated with several drops of
"Rebenge" which used to be sold by Vermont Country Store, not now listed.

Dursban is the poison 'of choice' that exterminators use to
wipe out carpenter ants....I have no idea what caused your
plants to be injured and die. -(
