I have thought that placing some fiberglass "screen door" screening on
the dirt side of the rocks might help keep the dirt from drifting into
the pond.
Most garden stores that sell water plants have a book or two that you
could peruse (or buy) and get ideas. Pond liner companies often have
brochures that would be helpful, and there is the library and the WWW.
