Several years ago when I was visiting on the Gulf Coast in Biloxi,
MS, I saw a gigantic, raised bed of bearded irises. Apparently, they were
surviving the heat and salt spray from the gulf for the leaves were very
green and the fans quite tall. As my visit occurred in the summer, I do
not know if they were successful in blooming or not. It can freze in that
area, and the wind off the water can chill one to the marrow in January.
