CULT: Iris blooms on the Gulf Coast

> Several years ago when I was visiting on the Gulf Coast in Biloxi,
>MS, I saw a gigantic, raised bed of bearded irises. Apparently, they were
>surviving the heat and salt spray from the gulf for the leaves were very
>green and the fans quite tall. As my visit occurred in the summer, I do
>not know if they were successful in blooming or not.

For the past few years my mom, Julia Loyall, and her sister-in-law Zoe
Sagrara Lynch (Orchid Gardens, Lafayette, LA) have been exchanging irises.
Aunt Zoe sends up Louisianas and Mom sends down tall bearded. Believe it or
not, Zoe says the TBs are doing fine for her in steamy, tropical Lafayette.
That woman has an amazing ability to make things grow, but if she can do
it, it can be done.
