SHOW: Kaysville (UT) Iris Show +

Hi Everyone!

It was another day filled with iris events in Region 12 (Utah)! First,
there was the second annual show sponsored by the Kaysville-Fruit Heights
Iris Club in Kaysville (midway between Salt Lake City and Ogden). This was
an *unofficial* show, but was conducted according to AIS rules and judged
by AIS judges. The Queen of the Show was a beautifully proportioned and
branched stalk of the vivid bicolor ZANDRIA (Nebeker, 96) entered by the
hybridizer. There was also an excellent Artistic Division to this show with
about forty entries. As there are many people new to irising in this area,
the Club offered a special ribbon for the best unidentified stalk
exhibited. About 25 such stalks were entered, and it was possible to
provide names for many of them, including the winner of the *unID* award,
which turned out to be OLD FLAME (Ghio, 75).

This afternoon there was a judges' training session on garden judging of
Siberians held at her home garden in SLC by Region 12 Judges' Chairman,
Cathy Hagan Reed. Cathy also grows Louisiana iris. None of these were in
bloom yet, but her plants looked healthy and vigorous.

It has turned hot again here - 90F today in SLC. When I got home this
evening, there were around forty new TBs that had opened in my garden.

Altogether, almost too much for one day!
