Re: Spuria height


You're probably closer to right, Bob, about the height of the spurias you
bought.  I note that van Bourgondiens also is listing Iris tectorum (under
the name 'Dragonfly') and gives its height as 36-48 inches!  This species
rarely gets over a foot to 18 inches tall anywhere.  So much for accurate
catalog information.

I think van B's is only a brokerage house and does little or none of their
own growing--certainly they do not have any production facilities in this
country.  This is the case with many of the "Dutch" companies doing
business in the US.  Their plants and bulbs are bought from wholesale
growers in Holland or Belgium, and there is a dismaying percentage of stock
that is mislabelled, often because it is grown from seed, not vegetatively
propagated.
