The news right now is worse than I feared on delivery of ROOTS and it
appears that a large number of HIPS members will not receive it before
leaving for convention. This is a "first" that I'm very sorry to have to
report to you.
The major time-sensitive info is the Nominating Committee's
recommendations for new officers. The Nominating Committee, consisting
of Anner Whitehead, Phil Edinger, and Mike Lowe, Chairman, has
recommended the following new officers: Joe Spears for President, Dave
Silverberg for VP, and Mary Forte for Secretary; also Joan Verwilst for
North Central Director. Serving Treasurer Carryl Meyers is nominated for
another term. Of course, nominations may be made from the floor, but
this is a most attractive slate, and I, for one, am grateful that these
accomplished--and busy--people have consented to run.
If you are a HIPS member and are going to OKC for convention, you will
have the opportunity to vote on these officers at the general meeting
Wednesday afternoon. If you are not, you should be reading your Spring
ROOTS soon; some people do have them. I'm still interested in hearing
receipt dates off-list at phoenixflr@juno.com, or by ground mail at 2620
