Hi everyone,
I have been so busy in the garden that I haven't been
to active in the message department. A quick update: We are still
experiencing peak bloom, the weather has cooled down and has been cloudy.
It is May 3rd, typically the day we close the garden but it looks like bloom
will extend into June this year! The seedling bed has been a lot of fun
this year, just the other day I was walking out and I saw it, a variegated
flower on a variegated foliage plant. Of course it was a TB bloom and the
stalk was only about 7 inches high, but heh you gotta start somewhere. For
my bloom report: everything is blooming. AMERICAN EAGLE is looking
incredible in this cool weather, icy blue, wow! HEARTBREAK HOTEL is doing
the same, looks like a much, much improved CELEBRATION SONG only more
vivid. The guest iris beds have some great stuff in them, PRINCESS
CAROLINE DE MONICO looks great along with CLASSIC SUEDE, SPLASHITICATA,
BOYSENBERRY BUTTERCUP and a ton of unnamed seedlings. The future of iris
is definitely looking bright. Got a look at BROKEN DREAMS right next to
SANTA and HEAVEN. All fun iris with nice color and form. All of
Schreiner's last year intros that we have are blooming. SERENE MOMENT
looks the best followed closely by IV'E GOT RHYTHM. DOUBLE BUBBLE has
incredible ruffles and MIDNIGHT OIL is just too darn black. I am having a
good time with a seedling of ours that is a reverse ameona SA that is darker
than crowned heads on top. It is out of KATHLEEN KAY NELSON X G-32-A so of
course the branching and bud count is great, 13 buds four branches a spur and
terminal. That's it for now, have fun at convention, my turn is next
year.
Mike Sutton - In iris heaven and literally running from
flower to flower.
