This is not as much fun as watching the irises bloom. Still it makes for
a neater flowerbed after the bloom is finished. It is also an opportunity
to
remove the stray weed and gather as many as the dead leaves which
have accumulated since bloom time. It also exciting when you discover
a copperhead curled up at the base of one of the plants. I'm not
especially
fond of the adrenaline rush this gives one, but am grateful to have seen
the creature before I disturbed it further. After persevering anyway, my
cleaning today has ground to a halt after finding yet another copperhead
in the next bed over. That is just too much adrenaline for my system to
take in one day! For those of you who may be subject to copperheads
and rattlesnakes visiting, do remember the cool and damp conditions we
create in the flowerbeds are little edens for them when the weather warms
up. Watch! It is not fun when you fail to spot one in time and will only
further delay cleanup if you accidently get you hand on one.
