I am confident some of it will set seed. My quarterbreds have much
sturdier stalks than my halfbreds so I'm backcrossing them to try to pass
along that trait.
CAPITOLA (the pollen parent of SATAN'S MISTRESS) just bloomed here, so I'll
backcross them (both ways) to see what happens.
<
Uh-oh. SATAN'S MISTRESS is from RED RAPPORT X SWAHILI.
> By the way.......CAPITOLA is listed as OB (no regelia ancestry) but it
has
beard hairs on the standards too. Does that sound right??? Isn't that
just a regelia thing?
Yes, it's a regelia trait -- and I don't recall noticing beard hairs on the
standards of CAPITOLA.
> Okay, so if you cross two ABBB quarterbreds together, you can
theoretically
get some ABAB halfbreds. If you cross tet arils with tet TBs, you get AABB
halfbreds.
<
Theoretically, crossing ABBB-type quarterbreds can produce BBBB-type TBs,
ABBB-type quarterbreds, or AABB-type halfbreds. Heavy on the
"theoretically", because I've made a lot of these experimental crosses with
extremely limited success.

&
3/4-breds, and no halfbreds, right??? Okay, my head is starting to
spin...<grin!>
Yer funnin' me, right? Functionally, AABB halfbreds are the same as ABAB
halfbreds -- the only difference is a choice of nomenclature. That's why I
always use AABB and ignore the permutations. Crossing two of these
normally produces only halfbreds.
